thou,000 a year. the bush tax cut will expire at the end of this year. obama was elected with a surplus of about three million votes. he won the election. he campaigned on this issue. again, the speaker can't take yes for an answer. the president has presented to him something that would prevent us from going over the cliff. it was response to something that the speaker gave them himself but i guess with the dysfunctional republican caucus in the house, even the speaker can't tell what they are going to do because he backed off even his own proposal. the house, we hear so often, is controlled by the republicans. and we acknowledge that. i would be most happy to move forward on something that senator mcconnell said they wouldn't filibuster over here that he would support and that boehner would support if it were reasonable. but right now we haven't heard anything. i don't know and it's none of my business, i guess, although i am very curious, if the speaker and the majority leader, the republican leader over here are even talking. i mean, what's going on here? mr. president, you can't le

an election. boehner was elected speaker. now lame duck obama should get over it. first of all, boehner wasn't elected peeker. and he's also implying that the president doesn't have a mandate. it's the president and the democrats who won the election. the president won by 5 million votes. democrats expanded their majority in the senate and the house democrats earned 1.4 34i8on votes than the gop candidates. boehner is e let the record reflect elected by the republican caucus. this is what makes me not know what they'll do. >> when i said in the top of the show, who's pulling thestri ini are the big donors. these people don't care if we go over the fiscal deadline. that's why they're so cavalier about it. they are trying to redistribute this country's wealth along the lines of more fuel for the wealthy. i think we've got to resist this because what they're trying to do is really make it so that the average american worker is cost competitive with the average chinese worker. we can't have that. we've got to have a society that really reflects the true wealth of the whole nation, which working

this morning. you know, the american people elected president obama to lead, but he spent most of the morning today playing the blame game, and i say let's get the blame game over with and start talking about solutions for the american people because, you know, every -- every dollar you take, you can take every dollar from every rich person in america and still not balance this nation's budget. until we start talking about real spending cuts and structural reform to the entitlement programs, we're going to go broke. we'll go the way of greece, and the president hasn't moved off that. he's still playing politics with these issues, and frankly i think most of us now don't care who gets the blame. we're concerned about our economy and about our paychecks. >> richard, senate minority leader mitch mcconnell took to the senate floor this afternoon and said despite the setback all is not loss. >> there's no situation that remains an impossible sticking point. the sticking point appears to be a willingness and interest or frankly the courage to close the deal. i want everyone to know i'm willing to g

they said they wanted to get rid of obama at any cost before the election, i thought it was just campaign rhetoric. but when the debt ceiling came and they said they were prepared to allow the fiscal integrity of the united states of america to go down the tube, that was a game of chicken i've never heard of in all of my years in politics. how much could they hate the man or hate his politics or be so insensitive to the poor? that they would tell the entire world that the united states is not prepared to pay its obligations. and that taught me a lesson which we're learning now. how far are they willing to go to you hurt the united states of america? and when is it not going to be party politics but what is good for our country? >> well, let's listen to senator mcconnell. more of what he has to say. because his words haven't provided much comfort to those who feel that the senate should be serious in its obligation to the american people. let's take a listen. >> as i indicated, the president called me and probably called others last night. my impression is he would like to see if we can mo
